WARNING TO DIESEL OWNERS! Short Mountain Diesel (SMD) nearly ruined my LML. Took it in for a front end rebuild. SMD did a decent job with it, then talked my spouse into giving it a retune. It ran terrible and they said it would need a matching tune for the transmission. It made it worse. They said the CP4 was going bad and needed the CP3 upgrade. Afterward it ran the same. Then we paid to have it detuned. The transmission was sticking in gears and running up to 4,000 rpm before shifting. They turned the tune up and it ran to 4,000 rpm faster. SMD told us the torque converter was giving out and needed to be replaced. Several months & thousands of dollars had been spent, so after several weeks of waiting for the toque converter to come in and it didn’t. I took it to a Transmission Service Shop to have the work done. They diagnosed that the tuning was interfering with the engine and transmission, no torque converted needed, it would not have fixed it. They set everything back to stock tunes and it works perfectly. SMD created all the issues we paid to correct. When we brought it to their attention, they felt bad and refunded us $136,not the 1st invoice of $900 for the tune. She guaranteed her service, if it didn’t work we get our money back. Which didn’t happen. SMD is not cheap, but they are careless. She didn’t keep her word about the work they do either. Don’t trust them!
