Brakes & Air Systems Shops Near You
Hydraulic and air brake work for diesel pickups, medium-duty trucks, and semis — pads, drums, chambers, slack adjusters, compressors, dryers, and leaks.
About Brakes & Air Systems
A soft pedal on a loaded pickup or an air-pressure gauge that will not build past 90 psi is not something to put off until next week. The local shops in this list handle hydraulic and air brake systems on everything from three-quarter-ton diesels to Class 8 tractors — chambers, slack adjusters, drums, compressors, dryers, and the slow air leaks that keep drivers up at night. Several also do trailer brakes and ABS diagnostics.
What these shops handle
- Air brake chambers and slack adjusters
- Compressors, dryers, air leaks
- Heavy-duty pads and rotors
- ABS and brake-light faults

Brakes & Air Systems FAQ
Commercial vehicles are subject to the federal annual inspection and daily pre-trip checks, and state enforcement will pull a truck out of service for out-of-adjustment brakes or audible leaks. For private diesel pickups with hydraulic brakes, a look at pad thickness and fluid at every oil change is enough. Any change in pedal feel, pull, or air build-up time is a same-week visit to a local shop.
The air system is the supply — compressor, governor, dryer, tanks, and lines. The brakes are what that air operates — chambers, slack adjusters, S-cams, drums or discs. If pressure will not build or drops overnight, the fault is usually in the system. If pressure is fine but the truck stops poorly or pulls, the fault is at the wheels. Good local technicians check both because a bad dryer will eventually ruin valves and chambers downstream.
Usually a wheel-speed sensor, a damaged tone ring, or a wiring fault — not the pads themselves. On heavier trucks it can be a stuck ABS modulator valve. A local shop with the right scan tool can read the ABS code in minutes; ignoring it means the anti-lock function is disabled even if the service brakes feel normal.
Heavy-duty pads and rotors on a diesel pickup cost noticeably more than the gas equivalent because of the parts size, and rear brakes on many trucks wear faster under heavy trailer loads. Semi brake jobs are priced per axle and depend on whether drums, shoes, chambers, and adjusters are replaced together. Any reputable local shop will quote per axle before starting — ask for that number in writing.
Yes. On pickups an exhaust brake fault is often a stuck variable-geometry turbo or a control solenoid. On tractors, engine-brake problems are typically solenoids, lash adjustment, or a control switch. Because both systems tie into the engine computer, look for a local shop that does engine diagnostics as well as brakes.

Mobile Diesel Repair
Mechanics who bring the shop to your driveway, job site, or the shoulder of the road when a diesel will not move under its own power.
Diesel Engine Repair & Diagnostics
Shops that live inside Power Stroke, Cummins, and Duramax engines — computer diagnostics, injectors, turbos, fuel systems, and full rebuilds.
DPF, DEF & Emissions
DPF cleaning and forced regens, DEF and SCR system faults, EGR coolers and valves, NOx and pressure sensors — the aftertreatment work that keeps a modern diesel legal and running.
Reefer & APU Repair
Thermo King and Carrier reefer units, auxiliary power units, and truck-mounted refrigeration — the small diesels and compressors that keep the load cold and the cab warm.
Trailer Repair
Dry vans, flatbeds, goosenecks, and equipment trailers — brakes, lights and wiring, landing gear, suspension, doors, floors, and DOT inspections.
Fleet Maintenance
Preventive maintenance programs, DOT inspections, and scheduled service for businesses that run diesel trucks, vans, and equipment — with fleet accounts and after-hours access.
RV & Agricultural Diesel
Diesel motorhomes and pushers, farm tractors, combines, and irrigation engines — shops with the bay height and the patience for the machines regular garages turn away.
